Cannabidiol or CBD for short, is one of many (100+) phyto-cannabinoids found naturally within the resin glands of the hemp (cannabis sativa) plant. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds which have a binding afinity with specific receptors across the human body.
These receptors are called “endo-cannabinoids” – endo representing endogenous, meaning bodies with an endo cannabinoid system (ECS) have a system within them which interacts with external cannabinoids, just like those found in the hemp plant!
CBD is generally found at very high levels within the industrial hemp plant, which is legal in most countries across the world. Hemp plants are not only very low in THC (almost none!), they have an abundance of CBD and other really great cannabinoids and compounds. This means, they can be harvested and used to make fantastic endo-cannabinoid producing products!
Its cousin THC, is mostly found in abundance in marijuana which is famous for causing the psychoactive ‘high’ feeling. Marijuana is a form of cannabis which is currently a scheduled drug under many laws across the world, including the UK.
