Cannabidiol or CBD for short, is one of many (100+) phyto-cannabinoids found naturally within the resin glands of the hemp (cannabis sativa) plant. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds which have a binding afinity with specific receptors across the human body.
These receptors are called “endo-cannabinoids” – endo representing endogenous, meaning bodies with an endo cannabinoid system (ECS) have a system within them which interacts with external cannabinoids, just like those found in the hemp plant!
CBD is generally found at very high levels within the industrial hemp plant, which is legal in most countries across the world. Hemp plants are not only very low in THC (almost none!), they have an abundance of CBD and other really great cannabinoids and compounds. It primarily functions through two main receptors; CB1 and CB2. CB1 is predominantly found in the brain and Central nervous system. CB2 receptor is found in the peripheral nervous system and immune system and as a result plays an integral role in our functioning as human beings.
So much so, this vital system ensures the correct regulation of sleep, digestion, pain, skin, hair and even being involved in cell functionality.
